I do not think it is that debatable to be honest with you. The Christian principle of not being a drunkard or indeed mixing with drunkards says a lot within itself.
Ok - a drunkard refers to somebody high on alcohol, just use common sense. Would Jesus get stoned - no.

I think it is "highly unlikely" to be honest. I read a lot of information on "pro-cannabis" sites and they insisted that Moses & the Priests were using a substance called Kaneh Bosem:
- which they insist translates as Cannabis!?!. I think it is simply a matter of idle speculation to believe that the nation and indeed Jesus were a group of "stoners".
The argument is put forward to enable the user to feel that they have the divine right to get out their tree!
It is a well known fact of course that those who moved & worshipped amongst the Pagan nations regularly used psychoactive substances within various ritiuals to help suspend the mind in a trance like state and enable amongst other features, possession and vision quests.
I used Cannabis for a very long time myself and whilst finding the effects pleasant at times, I knew that I was effecting my health (smoking) and I do believe that with extended use, it does effect mental health as well. Inducing a subtle level of paranoia to the sensitive mind. I ended up using the substance in tea form, which was extremely intense at high doses and eventually encouraged me to cease the practise.
In my opinion now, it is not necessary to use any substance to the point of completely losing yourself and your own identity. I understand why people become users though and I respect those who make the decision to quit and make a stand for purity of flesh.
A refined and weaker strain of the plant may have uses within the field of medicine though. Up until 1937 it was used as an aid within the field of psychiatry !!
A friend of mine still uses the stuff and what he is buying now is REALLY strong Skunk (according to his report). It has obviously been modified using a high THC yield process, probably GM.
Basically, if you can do without the stuff - please do!

it's always been so 'matter of fact' for me that it's all false, i fear that if i try to provide information with just my own mindset, i will miss a lot and might not provide the best info, i have tried searching on the site but there are so many posts i struggle to find even posts i remember seeing last month.. .
Rather than just laying into them with endless lists and quotes, why not order them a copy of Christian Freedom (Raymond Franz) and allow them to have a read and a think about what they are actually involving themselves in. If they still prefer the JW route after reading Ray's thoughts, then there isn't a lot else you can do practically speaking IMO.
If after reading that particular book, they still remain one of Jehovah's Witnesses, then at least the upper reaches of the organization will have less of an overwhelming influence, due to the information presented in the book. It is bound to make an impact upon the discerning reader.

from what i've read, the gb seem to live reasonably well (better, in fact, than the average jw would expect, i think) but it hardly seems anything that would have earned them a spot on lifestyles of the rich and famous.
so, why would they be so concerned about amassing organizational wealth?
College and higher education would be pushed more so they could get better jobs to have more to give.
Very good point. One cult that positively thrives upon material success IMO is "The Church Of Scientology". Material success is pretty much guaranteed if one nourishes and releases the true potential of the Thetan (look it up!). That model is opposed to the genuine Christian model that the society attempts to project (the latest mag having an article in there about a balanced view of materialism).
The authoritarian stance of the "human" governing body however, may be open to question. As Raymond Franz suggests in his books.

Remaining objective for a moment - I do not believe that the org' is motivated by gathering huge amounts of money. It would be wiser to channel resources into other areas of business, and unless this is proven, it is unwise to suggest that this is one of the primary motivations.
Suggest that the governing body are deluded spiritually and argue upon those grounds.

I haven't got anything by the wee lassie - but yes, she does have a sweet voice. I do worry that she is being media driven though and was shaped initially by a female pop guru in the UK, who is a driving force behind the "pop industry" I believe.

"Shawshank Redemption" - yep, the soundtrack overall is very good indeed.
I do like some Rock, but not the hard and contemporary variety. I am quite into a Babe Ruth track called "We People Darker Than Blue" at the moment and that is a superb cover of a Curtis Mayfield record, well worth checking out.
I did the whole "metal" thing about 17 years ago. My cousin tries in vain to get me into TOOL, which I can't listen to without a high degree of irritation. Too black for my tastes.

Perhaps you do, and we all have our different paths to follow. I just think that it isn't respectful to speak about someone's beliefs in such a way.
True - I should have used more tact in my initial post. The spirits do not respect the vessel they use and therefore I have little respect for the spirits. I have no power over these spirits, only a shield through Christ.
